TONKA SOLAR WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2018 IN THE OVERBERG AREA, INITIALLY FOCUSING ON CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE WORK IN RURAL SETTINGS. WITH A BACKGROUND IN DESIGN, MANUFACTURING, AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT, THESE EXPERIENCES LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR THE BUSINESS. IN 2019, TONKA SOLAR PIVOTED TOWARDS RENEWABLE ENERGY, WHICH HAS SINCE BECOME THE PRIMARY FOCUS, ACCOUNTING FOR OVER 90% OF THE WORK BY 2021. TONKA SOLAR’S MISSION IS TO CULTIVATE LONG-TERM, POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR CUSTOMERS.
THE NAME "TONKA" IS A TRIBUTE TO THE YELLOW "TONKA" TRACTOR I RECEIVED AS A CHILD FROM MY FERREIRA GRANDPARENTS. THAT TRACTOR INSPIRED ME TO DREAM BIG. IN DAKOTA, THE WORD "TONKA" MEANS "BIG," AND JUST AS THE "TONKA BEAN" IMPARTS FLAVOR, THESE MEMORIES CONTINUE TO INFLUENCE AND ENRICH EVERYTHING WE DO.
